LACA E-mail
Size Limits
Why did I receive a "Mailbox
over it's size limit" message?
Each person who uses
LACA's e-mail system has a 100 megabyte disk space limit on LACA's Exchange
server. 100mb equates to 100,000 kilobytes, which is how the automatic
e-mail reports disk usage to you.
If you have received an e-mail
message like the one below, this means you have exceeded this 100mb (or
100,000kb) limit.
The area highlighted in Red is where your current mailbox size is reported to
you.
Your mailbox has exceeded one
or more size limits set by your administrator.
Your mailbox size is 105863 KB.
Mailbox size limits:
You will receive a warning when your mailbox reaches 100000 KB. You may
not be able to send or receive new mail until you reduce your mailbox
size.
To make more space available, delete any items
that you are no longer using.
Items in all of your mailbox folders including the
Deleted Items and Sent Items folders count against your size limit.
You must empty the Deleted Items folder after
deleting items or the space will not be freed.
See
http://www.laca.org/limits.htm.

How can I quickly free up some
space?
If you are near this
limit, what can you do? Below are some suggestions.
- Empty your "Deleted Items"
folder. This folder counts toward the 100mb limit, just like every other
folder.
- Delete some items out of Sent
Items. If you send a 5mb file to someone, a 5mb copy of that message is placed
in your "Sent Items" and counts toward your 100mb limit. This can get
quite large if you send lots of large files.
What can I do if I continually
exceed this limit?
If you are always
fighting to stay under this 100mb limit, you may be better off to use an Outlook
client (Outlook 2003, Outlook 2002, or Outlook 2000) rather than Outlook Web
Access. An Outlook client will allow you to move files into Personal
Folders on your computer, which moves them OFF the LACA e-mail server.
Then, you will be limited only by the amount of disk space your own computer
has. Some copies of Microsoft Office include Outlook, so you may already
have the software on your computer.
What is the largest attachment
I can send?
LACA's Exchange server
has a limit of 10mb on e-mail attachments. If you have a file that is
larger than this, please use a ZIP program to compress it before sending.
If you have a large file that is important for your job that must be sent via
e-mail, please contact LACA for special assistance (740-345-3400).
How can I see how much space
I'm using?
If you use Outlook Web
Access - Click on Options in the lower left. The very last
option is "Display Mailbox Size". This will tell you the total sizes of
the messages in each folder.
If you use Outlook 2007,2003, 2002, 2000 - Right-click on your name at the top
of the folder list, then choose Properties. Click the button labeled
"Folder Size" to see the total sizes of the messages in each folder.
