Setting Up Outlook Express to Get Your LACA E-mail From School (Step-by-Step)

If you are configuring a mail client INSIDE the LACA network, use the following settings:
Incoming POP3 server  : exchange.laca.org
Incoming IMAP server  :
exchange.laca.org
Outgoing SMTP server : smtp.laca.org

Step 1:  From inside Outlook Express, Choose Tools...Accounts.  If this is the first time you have run Outlook Express, the Internet Connection Wizard should start automatically and you can skip steps 1 and 2.

Step 2 : From the Internet Accounts Window, click "Add" then "Mail"

Step 3 : The Internet Connection Wizard opens.  Enter your name as you would like it to appear.  This is not your account name, but the name as you want it displayed when you send e-mail.

Click "Next".

Step 4 : Enter the e-mail address assigned to you by LACA. This is your LACA username, with "@laca.org" added to the end of it.

Click "Next".

Step 5 : Choose either POP3 or IMAP for your incoming mail server.  LACA supports both types.  POP3 downloads new e-mail messages from LACA to your computer.  The mail will NO LONGER be on LACA's e-mail server.   IMAP allows you to view your e-mail while leaving it on LACA's e-mail server.  If you use the same computer all the time and would prefer to download all messages to that computer, choose POP3.  If you do this, you will not be able to see those messages in OWA.     If you typically switch back and forth between Outlook and OWA, you will probably want to choose IMAP. All of your messages will stay on LAC

A's server and the same messages will be viewable in Outlook Express and OWA.

If you choose IMAP, make your incoming Mail Server "imap.laca.org".
If you choose POP3, make your Incoming Mail Server "pop3.laca.org".

Make your Outgoing Mail Server "smtp.laca.org".

Click "Next".

Step 6 : Enter your LACA username and password.   If you want this computer to remember your username, check the box labeled "Remember Password".  If you share this computer with someone else, it is not a good idea to choose the "Remember Password" option.

Click "Next".

Step 7: Click Finish to complete setup.

Step 8: Click "Close" on the Internet Accounts window to return to Outlook Express.
